Student Information

ADMISSION INTO AU'S ESL PROGRAM
Incoming students, whose first language is not English, are assessed for English language proficiency as demonstrated by meeting any one of the following:

  • 1. High school transcript that indicates the student places in the top 1/3 rank in class his/her classes after six semesters.
  • 2. AU Academic Proficiency Test, Language Skills: Score of 153 or above.
  • 3. American College Test (ACT), Reading Score of 17 or above, and English Score of 17 or above.
  • 4. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Verbal Score of 450 or above.
  • 5. General Educational Development (GED) transcript, Reading & Writing Skills: Score of 550 or above.
  • 6. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Computer-based test: Score of 195. Paper-based test: Score of 525 or above.
  • 7. Evidence of an associate or higher degree from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • 8. Transcript of U.S. college/university record with at least 30 semester hours of credit with no grade below C.

STUDENT NAME The name on a student's record is the official name which will be displayed on college documents, transcripts, and the diploma. Name changes will only be completed upon presentation of legal document.

STUDENT RECORDS The Amerstate University policy with respect to confidentiality of student records voluntarily complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as amended, 20 U.S.C. 1232g, ("FERPA"). Request for review of specific records must be made in writing to the University.

Student records will contain application, grades, health records, and degree completion. Records for ESL students will be kept for at least three years. Records for master degree students will be kept permanently.

ATTENDANCE The Amerstate University recognizes the importance of attendance in the learning process. Instructors will document in their course syllabus fair and reasonable attendance policies for their classes based on their subject matter, delivery methods, learning activities, student audience, external regulations and employer expectations.

Students are responsible for reading and understanding each class attendance policy and for learning any material covered during an absence.

Students who miss class with an excused absent will be allowed to make up the missed assignments. Graduate Program students will have to arrange with the professor a convenient time to make up the practice sessions missed. Grading for the make-up work to be determined by the instructor, the student must meet with the instructor. Sickness and medical appointments are considered excused absences.
